I may or may not be crazy.
See, I've been having this problem lately. I've been rather discouraged with my writing, and frankly, a little bit sick of my current WIP, The Unhappening of Genesis Lee. I wrote to my amazing friend and crit partner Michelle to whine, and she gave me a great reminder.
Writing is supposed to be fun.
She encouraged me to take a break, write something new, and just have fun with it. You might say I took that to heart-- within about half an hour of her email, I had a brand-spankin' new story idea. And then I remembered it's almost November. Almost NaNoWriMo.
And with a big gulp, I signed up.
I did JuNoWriMo, so I know I can write that fast fairly easily. But November's a busy month for me, including Thanksgiving out of town at the in-laws. Nevertheless, having finished my current draft of Unhappening for my crit group full-novel review, I'm now launching into my new project for NaNo. I have a single Word doc of randomly jotted ideas, a few pictures to inspire me, and not much else.
I'm not going to stress about the 50,000 words in a month thing. I'm going to try for it, but my REAL goal this month is just to have fun. Forget plotting and character development and all the shoulds and shouldn'ts of writing-- I'm just going to let this thing explode in all its messy glory.
I'm a little giddy with excitement.
I do, of course, have a title-- Warped. And here are a few tidbits in pictures. Yeah, it's gonna be WEIRD. And adventurous. And fun.
A Lesson in Keeping Writing Fun-- and I'm NaNo-ing!

Good luck with NaNo, Shallee. I am not doing NaNo, but like you, I am a bit battle weary with my current WIP, so for November I plan to have fun by writing something new and something unplotted.
Oh... I hope your "Warped" is as fun and awesome to read as another "WARPED" that I read this year :D
I'm exited for you and yes just like you I plan on having fun. If I get the word count out of it great if not? Ah well.
Ooh I'll 'buddy' you!! I've been lookin for NaNo buddies all day!! Good luck!!
Yay!! Looks super creepy!!! ;) If you ever need to vent, feel free to shoot me an e-mail. I've been having a pretty crappy month as well. Hopefully November is better, right? Good luck on NaNo! We can have fun together!! :D
Yay! Shallee, I'm so excited for you. Sounds and looks like a lot of fun. I can't wait to read it :) Good luck and have fun!
LOVE LOVE LOVE this pictures. Can't wait to read the published book! :) You are awesome; hang in there.
Love the pictures! Kind of jealous that you're working on something new.:) Have fun NaNoing! I'm sitting this one out, but I'll be cheering everyone else on.
nanowrimo-ing too!! cheers :)
Nope. Not doing the NaNo thing. Maybe next year. But I say that every time.
Good luck! Hope you have a lot of fun.
I'm not doing NaNo, but I'll be happy to cheer you on anyway.
Go NaNo-nytes! :)
Good luck :) It looks super fun and creepy!
Awesome. Good luck! I keep reminding myself to have fun, too. My writing turns out better when I write for the joy of it.
I made you a buddy (I'm in as LynFAW).
Good luck with NaNo. It's really exciting isn't it. And I love your title.
I'm doing NaNoWriMo, too! Just added you as a buddy. :)
I love the pictures!
I'm in for NaNo! It's my first year and I'm way ahead with my word count. Not bad for someone who didn't have a scrap of planning done first. (Actually, I hate planning so I'm loving NaNo.)
Such an awesome idea! I hope you find the fun you're looking for. Those pictures seriously creep me out--looks like you've got an awesome story!
Yeah, NaNo is going to be awesome :). I've been stressing over my WIP, too, and a new project is just what I need. Working on something else charges me for editing.
Warped sounds interesting. I'll have to remember to friend you on the NaNo site.
Ok. The picture with the kids is going to give me nightmares! :-) I'm not doing NaNo this year, and, like you, I'm a little WIP fatigued, but I wanted to finish before getting into something new.
Good luck and have fun with WARPED!
What a great idea - to find the fun in writing this month. I had to remind myself of this recently. If it isn't fun now, it isn't going to be any funner once I'm published. When we remember how much fun it used to be and find that again, I think it realy helps our writing.
I am heading over to the NaNo website to friend you, Shallee! I'm enjoying this challenge so far. I know it's only been three days, but I am having fun. Yay for new projects!
